I believe that many social media platforms have fostered a culture where digital validation from strangers takes precedence over genuine life experiences. In a world where it’s challenging to completely opt out of the social media landscape, I choose a different path: actively managing my digital presence to maintain control over my own data and avoid the constant need for likes and validation from strangers.
I am not generally against technology, but I am critical of the vast data collection by tech companies, particularly because most people are unaware of its full extent and how it is used. This is why you won’t find me on social media and why I strive to self-host and use open-source software to manage my family’s data and services securely. This very website is a direct example of that philosophy in practice. It is self-hosted on a MiniPC running WordPress in an LXC container on Proxmox, all secured behind a reverse proxy in my garage in Falun, Sweden. I don’t plan to post a lot, but I’ll use this space to share a mix of meaningful information about my home-lab along with some of my more meaningless personal musings.
For my fellow home-lab enthusiasts and cybersecurity experts, I extend a friendly invitation: if you have the knowledge and capabilities, feel free to probe for weaknesses. I believe in continuous improvement and welcome responsible disclosure of any vulnerabilities you may find. You can reach me by email at: peter . woxblom [at] protonmail . com.
